Get ready for an exciting project in the beautiful port of Punta Umbría! With an investment of over 1.3 million euros, the works will begin at the end of March and will last for three months. This ambitious project, carried out by the Andalusian Public Ports Agency, aims to improve the operational and navigational conditions of the port to ensure the continued success of the local fishing fleet and recreational boating sector.

The impressive plan includes a maintenance dredging to restore the original operational and depth conditions of the access channel to the port facilities. This will involve an estimated surface area of 80,488 square meters and a total extraction of around 40,000 cubic meters of material, which will be deposited in the open sea.

In addition, this dredging project will complement previous actions taken in previous years. Starting with an initial dredging, two more dredging operations will follow, ensuring that the port remains fully optimized for years to come.

Punta Umbría has over 100 vessels, including 40 hydraulic dredges, 25 seine fishing boats, and 7 trawlers among others. This bustling port also holds a prominent shellfish fleet, primarily focused on clam fishing. Alongside the 40 hydraulic dredges and 30 trawlers based in Punta Umbría, the port often accommodates additional ships from the region, making it a vital hub for up to 80 hydraulic dredges at times.

But that’s not all! Punta Umbría is also a haven for water sports enthusiasts, with 267 boats dedicated to recreational boating. Plus, there are an additional 731 boats managed by sailing clubs for an even more vibrant water scene.
