Seatrade Cruise Med will be celebrated in Málaga in 2020
It will be the world’s first cruise industry event of the year
The cruise industry, also affected by the current situation, keeps a key date on the calendar, with the aim of holding an event that allows all agents involved to promote cruise tourism and the economic recovery of the industry.
The organization Seatrade expects to celebrate Seatrade Cruise Med in Málaga on the expected date, September 16 and 17, 2020, thus becoming the first global event and the most important one in the industry this year. However, the organisation will remain attentive to the evolution of the situation and the changes that may occur. “Of course, the health and safety of the attendees are our top priority, but we are optimistic about the improvement of the world situation by then, and we will all be excited to reconnect” added Seatrade.
The Local Hosting Committee, composed by the Port of Malaga, Malaga City Council, Costa del Sol Tourist Board and Andalucía Tourist Board, continue to work closely with the organization on this first big event of the cruise industry following the disruption caused by COVID-19.
The event continues to have the support of regional sponsors MedCruise (Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports), Global Ports Holding (parent company of Malaga Cruise Port, operator of the cruise terminals in Malaga), Puertos del Estado (Ports of Spain) and City Sightseeing, in addition to the presence of Suncruise Andalucía (Association of Andalusian cruise ports).
What’s New: An enhanced Event
As it is the only international event that Seatrade will be able to celebrate this year, some changes have been implemented to give the global cruise community the opportunity to participate in this event.
Thus, the exhibition area will be enlarged, to encourage the participation of all agents involved (cruise lines, tour operators, travel agents, among others); conferences focused on the analysis of current and similar situations will be added; more networking spaces will be offered and, in addition, a greater attendance is expected.
The celebration of Seatrade Cruise Med will not only provide an opportunity to position Malaga and Andalucía from 2021, but also to showcase the strength of the port and destination as a safe territory, with the capacity to host this great event. Accordingly, the necessary measures will be implemented in the different venues of the event, in order to reinforce health protection, guaranteeing hygiene, social distancing or those elements that are a priority at the time of its celebration.
Seatrade Cruise Med
The international Mediterranean cruise event, one of the most important ones in the industry, took place in Genoa in 1996 and remained there until 2004. Since that year, it continues to be held every two years changing location each time.
The event is organized by Seatrade Cruise, a division of Informa Markets, Informa plc. 3
